Uani Is a backyard , often with an enclosure traditionally designated as women’s space of exclusion and safety from men’s spying eyes , It is often associated with homes. There are many variants of exclusively women’s spaces equivalent to uani in many homes settling in Tanzania and the rest of Africa, some not enlcosed.
soma’s uani curatorial project seeks to create a creative interrogation and public discourse around the norms and function of woman’s spaces traditionally and their contemporary manifestation within the context of women’s action o break away from patriarchal norms.
