Our Journey

A Feminist Hub for Storytelling and Social Change

Our Journey

Soma Book Café was founded in 2012 as a space for feminist literature and dialogue in Dar es Salaam. Over the years, we’ve grown into a vibrant hub for storytelling and activism:

Soma Book Café opens its doors, offering a feminist resource room and café.

2012

Launched Kestoria Kavazi, an archive to preserve feminist herstories.

2018

Engaged over 7,000 people through Vavagaa platforms and reached 25,000 clicks at Gender Festival.

2020

Revamped our space to include co-working areas and multipurpose rooms, hosting events like the Vavagaa convening on August 12.

2024
Today, we continue to grow, empowering communities through programs, events, and creative outputs like Mapenzi Kidigitali na Hadithi Nyingine, an anthology by young feminists.
