As part of the global commemoration of the Centenary of Ireland’s 1916 Rising, on 17/06/2016, Soma is collaborating with the Embassy of Ireland to celebrate the creative agency of women in the liberation struggles in Ireland and Tanzania. This is an acknowledgement and a remembrance of women’s rightful place in our collective histories and a contribution to the authoring of “her-stories”
The commemorations shall include hosting an Irish Poet Vona Groarke who will conduct a poetry workshop (during the afternoon 1400hrs – 1730hrs) with a Tanzanian poet Janet Namara Gabone who is researching on the Influence of women’s (and their depiction in) literature and art on nationalist and liberation struggles in Tanzania. This will be followed by a public event (to start on 1800hrs – 2100hrs) featuring a panel and plenary discussion on Women in liberation struggles in Tanzania and Ireland. The event will feature a variety of literary expressions ranging from poetic and music performances, an exhibit of excerpts of nationalist literature, Irish poetry and visual art works created by women.
We welcome you to be part of this her-story making and celebration of women’s creative agency. The public event is an open call to everyone, to commence 1800hrs to 2100hrs. Ireland inaadhimisha karne moja tangu harakati zao za ukombozi za mwaka 1916, ni siku ya ijumaa tarehe 17/06/2016. Soma ikishirikiana na Ubalozi wa Ireland imeandaa shughuli ya kutambua na kuadhimisha mchango na Sanaa za wanawake zilivyohamasisha harakati za ukombozi Tanzania na Ireland. Kwa njia hii tunachangia katika, kuenzi na kutambua mchango na nafasi stahiki ya wanawake katika historia kama sehemu ya kuweka kumbukumbu sahihi na kuiandika upya historia yetu.
Katika maadhimisho haya, tutakuwa na mwenyeji wa mshairi wa Ireland, Vona Groarke, ambaye ataendesha warsha ya ushairi akishirikiana na mshairi waTanzania, Janet Namara Gabone, ambaye pia anafanya utafiti kuhusu jinsi fasihi na Sanaa za wanawake ilivyochochea harakati za kudai uhuru na haki kwa kupitia fasihi na Sanaa (na jinsi fasihi na Sanaa ya wakati huo na sasa inavyowasawiri wanawake) hapa Tanzania. Warsha husika itafuatiwa na mazungumzo ya wazi juu ya wanawake na harakati za ukombozi nchini Tanzania na Ireland yatakayoanzishwa na washairi hawa wawili. Pia kutakuwa na uhondo wa sanaa za: ushairi wa Tanzania na Ireland, muziki, na Sanaa za maonyesho za wanawake. Maandishi ya Fasihi ya wakati wa kudai uhuru yatakuwa miongoni mwa vionyeshwa.
