Soma organized its 2nd Book Bazaar a Soma Book Café its literary hub and co-creation space on Saturday 27th April 2017 from 10 to 17 hours. The following book related activities featured: Book Exhibition and Book Swapping; Watoto na Vitabu end of quarter fair; Meet the Author session where readers had a chance to converse with award winning authors of three Juvenile Titles: Love Bomb, Richard Mabala; Karafu, Nahida Esmail; and If she Were Alive, Lubacha Deus. At the event also, Book Launch and Book Signing was organised for two of the above titles, both published by Mkuki na Nyota. The last book on the list is yet to be out of press. The Book Bazaar poets meetup provided an opportunity for Waka Poets hosted by Soma Book Café welcome two poets on an exchange visit from Art Hub Zimbabwe for a poetic rendition and conversation on the oeuvre and context. Food and beverages were available and other allied services and merchandise such as: gift stationaries and tokens for children.
The Book Bazaar is quarterly event meant to bring books and book people closer to readers. It features a variety of activities targeting diverse interest groups; and serving their diverse learning, cultural and leisure interests. It is also a marketplace of ideas, stories where people share literary experience and good reads. In the long run, it is expected to lead into an annual literary festival
